Paint like Michelangelo! What a great idea!
Repinned from Practical Ideas for teaching younger pupils
In fourth grade, my teacher Ms. Danko, had us color in a picture of the Mona Lisa that had been taped to the bottom of the desk. It was so fun, and something I’ve never forgotten.
As a teacher today, even in high school, these are the types of things I would love to do. Instead of simply giving lectures on the Renaissance (please note, I think that often lectures can be done very creatively and well), I could supplement that time with some experience-based learning. It would at least let the kids appreciate the difficulty of the task (something the kids pictured here already know) and give students the chance to respect the arts.

Tomorrow night our good friend Mike Mewborne and his band The Lovely Few are celebrating the release of their sophomore full length record The Perseids. Please come celebrate with us!
Originally Rejectioneers wanted to be there to celebrate with Mike, but some of us had prior engagements. Thankfully Mike was willing to include me as a solo act. I’ll be playing acoustic versions of some of our songs as well as some original Ben Walker songs.
Dylan Dickerson & Those Lavender Whales are playing too.
For all of the details, please visit the Facebook Event page!
I couldn’t have said it better myself.
HUGE thanks to Ben Walker for his help with artwork, merch, promotion, inspiration, and overall coolness. Come out tomorrow night to hear his songs.
You can officially nab your very own copy of Issue One TODAY!
A huge thank you to everyone involved in the process. This magazine exists by you and for you.

I’m all for education with a geeky spin added to it.

Things I appreciate: learning, design, and Star Wars.
I’m all for geekyness with a geeky spin on it.

This is a pretty good article about Star Wars, art ownership, revising history, and character development. And Simon Pegg. And Star Wars.
The other day I had a student tell me that they knew of Burns Out Bright. Surprising, to say the least.
Kids today don’t really have that energetic rock that I grew up with. Granted, in high school I was a total tool… but by my senior year I was in love with bands like Doc Summers Band, Courage Riley and Ben Walker Radio. The latter is reborn as The Rejectioneers. 25 features all the energy of early Taking Back Sunday, Saves the Day, or Jimmy Eat World, but with much better production courtesy of Archer Avenue Studio (who the Lovely Few recently recorded with, ahem, ahem).
Their energy and sonic quality, though, are not what sets them apart. The lyrics are contemplative. In five songs Ben covers material like social order, spirituality, marriage, the past, the future, becoming a parent… all the things that really surface around that growingly popular “quarter life crisis” stage of life.
In short, this ep appeals to the teenager in me who is trying to figure out who I am, and the young adult who is facing the positive and negative consequences of those first major life choices.
25 is available at a “name your own price” rate. We all know this to translate as “free,” but it should be translated as “this music is pretty dang good, and if I want more of it I better pay the artist a little bit for it.”
Today I am working with David Sease, a musician with roots in that same era who has taken new life in an electronic vein, to remix a track from 25. Stay tuned for details.
It’s Great To Be Young Without A Care In The World!
