Why Don Cornelius Matters →
nprmusic: His show proved that undiluted black culture, expressed unapologetically, will become mainstream. Been watching early ST reruns on Saturdays. His death is especially sad now that I have some appreciation for the show and it’s larger importance.

Where Will You Find Your Next Favorite Band? →
npr: With the Internet, is any artist really “local” these days? After all, word of mouth no longer requires a slow-and-steady crawl: With a well-placed Bandcamp demo, an unsigned band can get a brand-new song heard by fans from Kansas to Kathmandu, without leaving its practice space. But make no mistake: A level playing field means an ungodly signal-to-noise ratio, and if anyone can be...

David R Walters Photography and The Lovely Few →
Starting this month, my band The Lovely Few is really pushing it’s last two records “The Limited Abilities of Man” and “The Perseids.”  We released the former in December 2010 and the latter only recently in 2011.  If we sell 300 albums, we’ll make back the initial invested money in studio costs, so that is the goal: 300 album sales in early 2012. Recently I...

2011: My favorite music
Woah!  It’s the last day of 2011!  Time for an obligatory note on the music I was listening to this past year.  It should be noted that I cross checked what I thought I was listening to with iTunes most played list.  This list is by no means exhaustive, but here’s what I got: Topping this list, at number one, was Rejectioneers’ Get So Mad off their EP 25.  It was a long time...

““…it’s ridiculous and ultimately unfair to compare a couple of music’s...”
–  We finally got a review that wasn’t “good”. It you hate us Ben, you should definitely read this one!  (via rejectioneers) I have a recurring nightmare where I release a new record that gets torn to shreds by Pitchfork.  Not my music, but my vocals and writing… the two areas of which I am...
